    Notes from Sydney Johnson (@sydneyj):

Its interesting to learn how the government, and business owners find many unconventional ways to perpetuate gentrification. Gentrification is far more complicated than rent prices going up. It is ingrained into NYC’s economy in almost every facet. For example, the type of structures built in the area impact the job market and activity of the residents of that neighborhood. From an outside perspective, gentrification may not even be immediately apparent because it is made up of a process of many steps that on their own may seem innocent, however, it strongly affects the people of nyc who are being pushed out of their housing and have fewer and fewer options. The government is not doing enough to combat gentrification, because they can profit from it. Gentrification is essentially a modern version of stealing land or colonizing. We have seen this patten throughout history and yet the fight is still going on. People have started to sue the city to combat this issue. Housing is a human necessity and if gentrification is allowed to continue, people may start to run out of options.
